Check the weather before you pack. As of 3/8, there is a 50% chance of rain for 3/13 and 3/14. Please bring an umbrella, a jacket, layered clothing, and closed toed comfortable shoes/boots.
When you arrive at the hotel, tell them that you are on the room list for the UCSB Physics Visit Day. Show your ID.
The RSVP form has closed. The event is sold out.
Signups for faculty meetings opened on 2/27 for visitors to sign up via Google sheet. They have been emailed with instructions.
We strongly recommend that you make your travel arrangements as soon as possible. We encourage you to plan to arrive in Santa Barbara on Sunday, March 12th, so that you can attend the dinner with current graduate students at 5:00 pm and the full day of events on Monday.
It is recommended that you plan travel to depart in the afternoon or later on Tuesday, March 14, if you attend the additional programming breakfast described in the admit letter on page 5. If you indicated on your RSVP form that you thought the event was for you, you have been sent the RSVP form to reserve your spot.
We will reimburse travel expenses up to $210 from within California, or up to $320 from any other location. We will also provide you with two nights of hotel accommodation Sunday, March 12th through Tuesday, March 14th (a double occupancy room, shared with another prospective student) at the designated hotel which is the:

The hotel check in time is 4 PM. Check out time is 11 AM. Free continental breakfast, including free made-to-order pancakes. Free internet. Complimentary taxi service to and from the Santa Barbara Airport and Goleta and Santa Barbara Train Stations. Call the hotel at (805) 319-4314, once you arrive and have your luggage. Please note that this service is based on availability. If possible, check if other UCSB visitors have arrived at the same time so that you can share the ride to the hotel. Please try this free service first. If it is not available, make other arrangements such as a ride-sharing service. Nearby restaurants include Starbucks and In-N-Out Burger.
Please see our Travel Policy here. Receipts and completed travel worksheets must be received by April 15th in order to be reimbursed. Information on travel reimbursements will be sent to the visitors soon. Be sure to retain your receipts that show how you paid.

4:50 PM- Meet outside of the Ramada by Wyndham hotel to meet with current graduate student hosts for the Downtown Santa Barbara dinner.
Remi Boros and Amina Li will be the Host Leaders.
5:00 PM-The SB Airbus will pick up at the designated hotel. The bus will drop off at State Street and Ortega Street, near McConnell's Ice Cream. Remember this drop off spot. This is the same location as the pickup. Please note: If you miss the designated transportation to and from this event, you will be responsible for making transportation arrangements at your expense.
8:00 PM-Meet at drop off location for pickup back to hotels.

7:00 AM - 8:00 AM - Enjoy your hot continental breakfast, while you wait for the bus.
8:15 AM - The Santa Barbara Airbus will be waiting outside of the hotel to take you to Mosher Alumni Hall.
8:30 AM- The bus will depart for UCSB.
Please note: If you miss your designated bus, you will be responsible for arranging transportation at your expense. If you are planning to drive yourself to the campus, please allow a little bit of extra time as you will need to obtain a visitor's parking pass. For places to park, please visit Transportation and Parking Services. Please note that UCSB does not reimburse for parking passes, tickets or other such charges.

9:00 AM - 9:20 AM - Welcome Talk with Department Chair Claudio Campagnari and Graduate Faculty Advisor David Stuart in Mosher Alumni House, Alumni Hall on the second floor. Coffee, tea and light breakfast will be provided.
9:30 AM - 10:30 AM - Atomic, Molecular and Optics/Condensed Matter Experiment Group Meeting in Broida 3302, Conference Room, across from elevator.

10:30 AM - California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI) Tour with Professor Ania Bleszynski-Jayich (meet in Broida 3302)
9:30 AM - 11:00 AM - Las Cumbres Observatory (LCO) Tour with Andy Howell, LCO Astronomer and Adjunct Professor. (Meet in parking lot adjacent to Mosher Hall.) The SB Airbus will pick you up at 9:30 AM and will depart for Mosher Hall at 11 AM. Please note that visitors to LCO headquarters must be vaccinated. Tour of the headquarters Las Cumbres Observatory, a global network of 25 robotic telescopes placed all over the world. At LCO headquarters, 2.5 miles from campus in Goleta, you can see the telescopes and instruments being built, and find out about the science they do. It focuses on time domain astronomy, including extrasolar planets, supernovae, kilonovae, tidal disruption events, stellar variability, active galactic nuclei, and solar system objects. Many LCO astronomers are affiliated with UCSB physics, and students can do projects with them.

9:30 AM - Theory and Kavli Institute of Theoretical Physics (KITP) Tour hosted by Professor Boris Shraiman and various theory faculty will be in attendance (meet in Mosher Hall, Alumni Hall on 2nd floor)
11:00 AM - 12:00 PM - Poster session in Mosher Alumni House, Whalen Plaza, 2nd floor (If weather is inclement, the session will be held on the 2nd and 3rd floors of Mosher Alumni House.)
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM - Lunch in Mosher Alumni House, 2nd and 3rd floors (If you indicated a special dietary requirement in your RSVP, please see a staff member, such as Jennifer Farrar, for assistance.)
3:00 PM - 4:00 PM - High Energy Experiment Group Meeting in 5233 Broida Hall
3:30 PM - 4:30 PM - Astrophysics Tea in Broida 2015 with Professor Teja Nerella.
1:30 PM - 5:00 PM - Individual meetings with Faculty
5:10 PM-Meet in Broida Hall first floor lobby to walk to the faculty dinner located at The Club and Guest House via Campus Point with Professor David Patterson. If you miss the extended tour to Campus Point, you can walk directly to the dinner. Please be sure to wear comfortable, closed toe walking shoes, such as hiking books or athletic shoes, since this 30-40 minute walk includes sand, stairs and uneven terrain. View the campus map here. The walk directly to the The Club and Guest House is approximately 15-20 minutes. On Tuesday morning, there is an additional event for folks who are underrepresented in physics. Students who might benefit from this include: underrepresented minorities, first-generation college students, students who identify as LGBTQ, women, DACA students, graduate students who are parents, veterans or military dependents, students with disabilities, or any other students from non-traditional backgrounds. If you feel this event is appropriate for you, and you would like to be invited to participate, please check the appropriate box on the Visit Day RSVP form referenced in your admit letter by the 2/21/23 RSVP deadline, and plan your travel accordingly. Update: All relevant guests have been emailed the invitation with the RSVP link for this special event. RSVP is closed.
